Link juice is an informal term used in search engine optimisation (SEO) to describe the value or authority passed from one webpage to another through hyperlinks. When a page links to another, it shares a portion of its own credibility, helping the linked page improve its visibility and rankings in search engine results. The more authoritative the linking site, the more “juice” it can pass, boosting the linked page’s perceived trust and relevance.

Not all links carry the same weight. Factors that affect the amount of link juice passed include the authority of the linking domain, the relevance of the linking content, the number of other links on the page and whether the link is followed or nofollowed. For example, a follow link from a high-authority news site within related content is more valuable than a nofollow link buried in a long list of unrelated links. Internal links also pass link juice, helping distribute authority throughout your own site.

Building high-quality backlinks from reputable sources, avoiding broken or irrelevant outbound links and using internal links wisely can all improve a site’s authority and keyword rankings.
